How to use this calculator
Calculate a time card with breaks and overtime
Enter the time you started working and finished working each day. If you took an unpaid lunch, enter its duration in minutes. The calculator subtracts unpaid breaks from each shift and adds up your weekly time.
Example: 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM with a 30-minute lunch
The elapsed time is 8 hours 30 minutes. After subtracting a 30-minute unpaid lunch, the worked time is 8 hours (8.00 decimal hours).
Overnight and split shifts
For an overnight shift, enter 10:00 PM as the start and 6:00 AM as the finish. The calculator treats the finish as the following day. If you worked two shifts on the same date, use Add another shift and select the same date.
Decimal time vs. hours and minutes
Timecards often report decimal hours for payroll. For example, 7 hours 30 minutes equals 7.50 hours, while 7 hours 15 minutes equals 7.25 hours. This calculator shows both formats and provides CSV export.
Weekly overtime estimates
The initial threshold is 40 hours per week and the optional pay multiplier is 1.5×. These are adjustable estimates, not a determination of overtime eligibility or compliance. Daily overtime, workweek boundaries, breaks, exemptions, and other pay requirements depend on the employee and jurisdiction.
